Situation, procedure & deadline

You have notified the student adviser about personal circumstances which affected your study performance, thus from obtaining the required Bachelor 1 credits according to Binding Study Advice (BSA) policy. 


Students who have reported personal circumstances will receive a notification via Osiris Case BSA personal circumstances with the request to prepare their personal file including supporting documentation prior to the BSA meeting in August. This information will help the Examination Board to come to a decision regarding your BSA in August*.


Procedure and deadline  

This Osiris Case is open now and closes on Monday 5 August 23:59 PM (CEST) 2024. This means that you can already start preparing your case from today onwards and you have until 5 August 23:59 PM (CEST) to complete your case and include all supporting documentation. 


If you do not prepare and submit your case on time, your case will NOT be discussed during the IBA BSA meeting on 14 August 2024 and therefore will directly result in a Negative Binding Study Advice (NBSA). 

In case you do not complete your Osiris Case BSA, you might still be able to continue if you are eligible for the hardship clause (no additional action required from your side).

*If you have obtained all necessary credits to successfully complete your BSA (your year 1, 60 EC) or you are eligible for Bachelor 1 compensation, please withdraw your Osiris case as soon as possible.

For whom is this procedure applicable?


This Osiris Case BSA procedure is only applicable for first year students who started with IBA in academic year 2023-2024.
Is there a deadline?

Yes, complete your request by Monday 5 August 2024 at 23:59 PM the latest!
I have obtained 60 EC (with or without B1 compensation), can I withdraw/ cancel my Osiris case?Yes, please withdraw/cancel your Osiris Case  if you have obtained 60 EC of year 1, and thus have met the BSA requirement.
What happens if I do not complete my request before the deadline?




Your case will not be discussed at the BSA meeting in August. You will receive a negative BSA. 


In case you do not complete your Osiris Case BSA, you might still be able to continue if you are eligible for the hardship clause. 

If I am eligible for the hardship clause, do I have to submit a separate request?

No, there is no action required from your side in this case. You will be discussed during the BSA meeting in August. 
Can I contact the student advisers and /or the Examination Board between now and the BSA meeting regarding the outcome?  



No, between now and till after the outcome of the BSA meeting, you cannot contact the student advisers and/or the Examination Board regarding the outcome. You will receive an email from the Examination Board no later than 2 working days after the BSA meeting with the outcome. 
What happens if I receive a negative advice after the BSA meeting?

This means that you can not continue to IBA year 2, and you are not allowed to (re-)enroll for IBA for the upcoming three academic years.
I read something about the possibility of attending a hearing after received a negative outcome, how does it work?

What should I do if I have decided to not pursue my IBA programme after all? 



If you decide to not to continue with your IBA programme regardless of the BSA, please notify your student adviser via studentadviser@rsm.nl and withdraw your Osiris Case BSA as soon as possible.
Is the hearing with the Examination Board online or in-person on campus? The hearing with the Examination Board can be both online or in-person on campus.  
What can I do if I disagree with the negative BSA, after the hearing with the Examination Board?



Within six weeks after receiving the negative BSA decision, you can submit an appeal to the Examination Appeals Board.


You cannot contact the Examination Board directly about the final decision.

How should I prepare my Osiris Case BSA personal circumstances form?











Provide a concise answer and chronological outline of your personal circumstances and the corresponding effect on your study progress during this academic year. 
Next to this, it would be advisable, if applicable, that you include on how you have tried to manage your personal circumstances alongside your studies: e.g., by scheduling regular meetings with your student adviser/ psychologist/ GP or a particular training to help you with your personal challenges (stress management course etc.). 
What is meant by verifying documentation? 

































Standard of evidence in support for your case of personal /extenuating circumstances. Please keep in mind that the burden of proof to support a claim always lies with the student. Also, that the evidence presented by students must meet the following standards and should:  
  1. Where written by appropriately qualified professionals (e.g., GP/ hospital specialists, accredited therapists/ psychologists etc.,.) who are independent of the student, be on headed paper and signed and dated by the author. Evidence presented by email may be acceptable if the email has been sent by the author from the official domain name of the author's organisation)  
  2. Confirm specifically that the circumstances were witnessed on the relevant date as opposed to being reported retrospectively.
  3. Be in English. It is the student's responsibility to provide supporting documentation and any translation should be undertaken by an accredited translator. Any associated costs must be met by the student.  
  4. Be unaltered by the student. Documentation that has been amended for any reason will be deemed inadmissible by the Examination Board 
  5. Format: We prefer jpeg/pdf or a scanned version of a hardcopy.
What are examples of verifying documentation?













 
  • A statement from your GP indicating when your consult was, and /or including the description of your medical situation, 
  • A mourning card/ official announcement in newspaper/ (online) registrat of bereavement, 
  • Official documentation of medical prescriptions by your GP/ psychiaterist, 
  • Appointment confirmation of your medical health specialist/GP/ therapist/ psychologist etc.
What if I cannot procure verifying documentation (at all or not in time for the deadline of 5 August?)


 		If it is difficult or if it is not possible for you to procure verifying documentation regarding your personal circumstances (in time and no later than 5 August 2024), please contact the student advisers’ team via studentadviser@rsm.nl.
